Here is another indian essay

Cultural Difference Essay
By: Dakota B
I the mid 1800’s, settlers from the United States began to move into Oregon territory. Upon arriving, they met members of many different Native American tribes. There were many cultural differences between the settlers and the Native Americans. The cultural differences led to many misunderstandings and hostilities. Some of the differences were religious; some had to do with the concept of wealth and land ownership. If both sides tried to understand the others view point better, things would have gone better for both sides.
One of the major differences between settlers and Native Americans is that Native Americans did not completely understand the concept of land ownership. The Native Americans felt like the land could not belong to any one. They felt the earth was for everyone to use, and that everyone should respect every ones territory. When the Government wanted some land they would set a price and offer it to the tribes. If the tribe accepted, the government expected the tribe to leave, but tribe leaders did not understand that this meant they could not come back. The tribes would have never agreed to completely abandon the land because the land held sacred burial and hunting grounds. When the tribes did return the settlers viewed this as an act of war, and many people on both sides died because of it.
In many ways the U.S government took advantage of the fact that the Native Americans did not understand the treaties completely. For example, the treaty would read, “We get this land and we will pay you X amount of dollars”. After that, they would kick them off the land and not pay them for many years, if at all. That also started many little wars between the Native Americans and the Settlers. Another communication problem was that the chiefs often thought they were only agreeing to discuss the treaty with their tribe. They did not realize they where committing to it by signing. Negotiations and treaties where done in the trade language of Chinook. Chinook does not have very many words, which made it hard to communicate properly.
Religious differences between the Native Americans and settlers were signifcant. The wars that happened killed many on both sides. That is when the U.S decided to make the reservations and combined a lot of the tribes together. Today they still live on reservations but they have more space to live on. Another was the Native American had a very different view of wealth than the settlers did. The last big thing was religion differences. Let us all take a look at this in depth.

Back in the time when Indians and settlers did not get along very much was because of many things but, one them was the settlers where steeling land in a way that the Natives Americans didn’t know it. By that I mean

Today we use us currency but back in the 1800’s it was different for both natives and settlers. The Native Americans view on wealth it was the more possessions you had the richer you where. For settlers it was like it is for us today the more money you had the better you are in life. We can see the different for us we as U.S. citizens feel that is you have a lot of money then you are famous. That is completely different for the Indians they had to earn the respect and had to have more things to be up higher in the tribe. If you had nothing then and now you are and where poor and nobody cared about you in any way shape or form. With the Indians no matter what everyone in the tribe still cared about you even if you had nothing. The settlers only cared about them self and no one else. The Indians really where loving, and happy with each other at all times.

United States oil problem
By: Dakota Bridges
Many Americans realize that there is a oil problem, but they may not know what factors contribute to it. Today the U.S. economy is almost totally dependent upon foreign sources of oil and natural gas from them. One of the reasons the economy is in big trouble because of this oil problem. In addition, for decades, the U.S. has neglected a serious pursuit of alternative resources. Storms are another big reason for oil prices going up. When storms hit they sometimes destroy an oil rig in the middle of the ocean. These storms affect us immediately. Let’s explore these reasons in depth.

1. Today the U.S. economy is almost totally dependent upon foreign sources of oil and natural gas from them.

2. In addition, for decades, the U.S. has neglected a serious pursuit of alternative resources.

3. Storms are another big reason for oil prices going up.

here is a good eassy about smokeing

How bad smoking is…By: Dakota Bridges

Smoking is really bad for you and you know it. When you smoke it kills you earlier in your life. It gives you cancer. It has tar in it and nicotine in the cigarettes. Take time off your life and your loved ones. Why shouldn’t you smoke? There’s so many reasons let take a look.

The first fact we are going to look at is the one that it takes years off your life. More than 400,000 deaths in the U.S. each year are from smoking-related sickness. Here is just a few of them Allergies, Lung Cancer, Cataracts, Heart Disease, Infertility, Strokes, Bladder cancer, Gum disease, Kidney cancer, Gangrene, many upper respiratory disease and ulcers and many more. So think about that. Do you want any of these? I bet not. How would you feel if you died on one of you family members leaving them with no money, no job, and no one to help take care of your children? The life expectancy of a smoker is 8.3 years less when compared to non-smokers. That is broken down to 12-14 minutes per cigarette.

Now we are going to talk about what the certain cancers do to you. The first one is mouth cancer it makes it so you need to get part of you cheek removed and part of your butt in place of that. How does that sound. The next one is throat cancer that can make it so you have to have you voice box removed and so you have to use a vibrate thing to talk the rest of your. Next is lung cancer. Lung cancer is the 2nd most common cancer in the United States. Around 38,500 people are diagnosed in the US each year. Think about that you could be one of the 38,500 people in the US who get it. That is sad isn’t it? The last one I am going to talk about is Kidney cancer in adults; the most common type of kidney cancer is renal cell carcinoma, which begins in the cells that line the small tubes within your kidneys. Children are more likely to develop a kind of kidney cancer called Wilma' tumor. The American Cancer Society estimates that almost 51,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with kidney cancer each year. That is some sad thing to die from. Well you can prevent that if you stop smoking and don’t start.

The biggest thing is 2nd hand smoke. It kills you slow and kills the people around you even faster. The ratio is for every three you smoke it is like one for the person around you so if you smoke 27 a day then they have smoked 9 in that day. Each smoke you have is taking off 12-14 min and multiply that by the 27 you smoke and the nice that you gave to your spouse or child. The death rate each year of 2nd had smoked is 53,000. That is a lot. What about the chemicals. At least 50 of the 4000 chemicals found in second-hand smoke are known to cause cancer, including hydrogen cyanide, arsenic, and formaldehyde and sulpher dioxide. Think about that when you smoke.

I got all of this info off the internet. There were at least 75, 00 sites for each one. I personally have had no one die from smoking but I have friend who have. It was their mom, or their dad or even there grandparent. I hope you learned something from this paper. I hope you stop smoking. Thank you for listing and reading this.

Why Teens Need Music
Parents and other adults see kids with head phones, and automatically think that their kids aren’t listening. Parents usually want the music off for chores and at bedtimes. Teachers will not allow kids to listen to music in class. I think that kids should be able to listen to music during chores, school, and bed time. I want to be able to listen to music at all of these times. Here are the reasons why.
Kids should be able to listen to music during school. This is because there have been tests that when kids listen to music, they can focus better. There was a test one time that had the results that the kids did learn a little more and had a better memory. The NEA (National Education Association) home page says ” Some students can work with a radio or stereo on, while others must work in silence.” That is right on their home page. When kids are getting in trouble in class, the other kids, who are doing their work, get distracted and can’t focus on their work. When other kids are asking questions, kids who already understand the assignment can’t focus and keep working. Then these good students don’t get as much as work done. If the kids were allowed to have headphones on, they would be able to work without being distracted. When I listen to my music I can focus better because I don’t get distracted by other noises. I think many kids would benefit by allowing headphones with music during class.
I also think that kids should be able to listen to music during chores. In my opinion, it makes chores more fun. I personally have more fun during chores if I have my favorite songs playing. It makes the work more fun and time seems to speed by. Kids like me are able to tune out any phone calls so they wouldn’t get distracted by their friends and forget about their chores. It can also be fun when using a vacuum, the music just makes you dance and enjoy chores. If there are more than one kid, then the music can keep them from arguing with each other. It is really fun to listen to music while you work, and I think it would be a good idea to let your kids listen during chores.
I also think that music would and can help kids go to sleep. It has helped for at least the last 7 years get to sleep. It in the past has also given me a good sleep because I have heard noises outside that scared me and kept me awake. I mean noises from the weather like wind and rain, or the cars going by, or noises like the trees hitting your window. It might also help if you watch scary movie music can make you think better thoughts. I really feel if you like music, you need to listen to music while you go to sleep. It doesn’t matter what type, if you like it it will help you get to sleep.
I hope you all have enjoyed this. I also hope you learned something about kids that you may not have thought of before. Music might help your child be better at school work, have more fun with chores, and have a good night sleep. Without these rules, the only time I have to listen to music is my down time. I don’t get very much of that, and I live for music. No matter where you are, I think that kids should be able to listen to music. Also, I want to let you know that during the time I was writing this entire essay, I was listening to music.

Puget sound low lands
By Dakota Bridges

I am doing a region repot on the Puget Sound low lands. There is so much here to see and do. There are also many opportunities. Puget Sound low land has a good location, it is rich in recourses, there is lot of diversity and culture, there is much to see and learn about history. Puget Sound in my opionion is one of the coolest place to live in and been to. Let’s learn about Puget Sound low lands.

Puget Sound low lands are located between the cascades and costal region of Washington. This region was formed by rivers, volcano and the last ice age. There a many bodies of water a couple of major ones are Puget Sound, Strait of Juan de Fuca, and lake Washington. There are so many Islands a couple of major one are the San Juan Islands, Whidbey Island, and many more. There are also active volcanoes like Mt Rainnear, and Mt St Helens. There is also a major city Seattle.

Puget Sound low lands have lots of rich and natural recourses. That includes all sorts of seafood, forests. Water, national parks, lots of wild life and ferial soil good for growing. Some of the trees include evergreen, Douglas fir, Hemlock and Red ceader. Another natural recourse is seafood that includes Salmon, cod, crab, shrimp, osters, clam and much more. One of the biggest and national parks is Mt Rainear National park it is a beautiful place to see.

People from all along the Pacific Rim have come to live on the Puget Sound low lands. Because of this a great deal of dervicty is found there. Some of the races that live there are Uncranes, Russians, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnams, Thai, Cambodian, Indian, Pacific Islander, South American, Guatluman, And Pilipino. As well as Mexican, Canadian, Native American, and European and Puget sound has all of theses. This “Melting Pot” atmosphere means that most people in Puget Sound are open to new ideas. There are places of worship; places to eat, cultural festavilles and they are all together in this little area but, manly Seattle.

The Puget Sound area has more jobs available more than any place in Washington. There are many jobs in Technology at companies like Microsoft. There are also manufacturing jobs at large companies like Boing. Due to the large population it is also great place for someone to start their own business. There are construction jobs, commercial fishing, and diving and even some in farming. In the south part of the Puget Sound lowlands manufacturing and rental are more common. There are a lot of opportunities for someone to live.

People in the Puget Sound low lands there is a lot of culture and history. There are many parks and museums that showcase the Native Americans who first lived here. Fort Casey on Whidbey Island Was built during the Spanish-American war and has one impressive a ray of cannons and bunkers. If you walk along the pier in Seattle you can see the ship yards, sea lions, fishermen and the famous pike place market. If you visit the capital buildings in Olympia, you can view the 3rd largest dome in the world.

As you can see the Puget Sound has a lot of things to offer. What have you learned after reading this? Do you not agree with me now why I think it is the coolest place to be? Well thank you for listing to me about the location, recourses, economy, devity and culture and history. Next time you want to go somewhere go to the Puget Sound low lands.

Pro Hunting
Some people love it, some people hate it, but I have some reasons why you should love hunting. The strongest reason I have for hunting is that it’s a way to help provide food for my family; I do not hunt just for the sport. I also believe that hunting is a good way to connect with nature and learn about the environment. Studies also show that when managed properly, hunting is a humane form of wildlife management. Let’s look deeper into some of these reasons.

My main purpose for hunting is to help provide food for my family. Most people who are anti-hunting are willing to eat meat. They buy their package meat in the store and order it in restaurants. They are not willing to go and kill their own meat even though that the meat that they buy has probably been slowly killed or even tortured. If you would like to learn more about the cruelty and contamination of mass production go to www.farmsanctuary.org. If I were able to, I would love to supply all of the meat for me and my family through hunting. Wild game is not treated with hormones, exposed to diseased animals or kept in an over-crowded pen. Unless you are vegetarian, animal rights is not a valid argument against hunting.

The time spent hunting includes many hours of climbing and hiking. To be a skilled hunter you need strong survival skills. You also must have a healthy respect for Mother Nature. Being prepared for snow, sun stroke, rain storms, getting lost or a medical emergency are all things a good hunter knows. Being away from the sounds of the city and looking at all God’s creation make me feel happy inside and makes me think how much time God took on each and every one of these animals. Spending uninterrupted hours with my brothers and step-dad I know we are making memories and laughing at things that I will be able to tell my children about.

Hunting is carefully controlled by the government as a way to manage wildlife resources. The restrict when you can hunt, where you can hunt, what you can hunt for, what kind of weapons you can use, and the maturity of your animal. The sale of hunting licenses, tags, and stamps is the main source of funding for most state wildlife conservation programs. By respecting seasons and limits, purchasing all required licenses, and paying taxes on hunting equipment and ammunition, each hunter makes a big contribution towards helping to protect many species of wildlife and habitat for the future. By paying the taxes on hunting equipment, hunters are contributing hundreds of millions of dollars for conservation programs that benefit many wildlife species, hunted and non- hunted.

I hope that I have shown you some positive aspects of hunting that you may have not thought of before. Many people don’t think about where there food comes from. Hunting forces you to think about of not wasting any thing. There is much more to hunting then just shooting animals. The skills you learn can help you with other things in life. Many of the wildlife sanctuaries and conservation programs are a result funding that came from hunters. I encourage you to talk to hunters in your area if you would like more information.\

shout outs to any one who read this
here is one of my big projects and i want you to see it

Chinook Indians By: Dakota Bridges
The Chinook Indians of chinookin lived on the bank of the Columbia River form British Columbia, Canada to eastern Washington, all the way to the Pacific Ocean. They were peaceful people who revolved around fishing, manly salmon, and trading in goods like fur, to fish to slaves. The Chinook where lively people their villages were close and mostly related. They were slow to anger and would resolve their conflicts. Today, the descended of Chinook live on reservation in Washington and Oregon.

Location was vital and interesting part of the Chinook life. This is because they needed plentiful food and good places for their homes. They also wanted to choose a place that their Gods would approve of. The Chinook actually changed where they lived, depending on the season. The chief would choose their location each season on his feeling. The location chosen for each season depended on what the tribe needed and what food would be available. They also had to consider where the water was for drinking and what kind of supplies would be available for their shelter. I think that would be an interesting way to live.

The Chinook lived in long houses. The reason why is because they lived in their big families and wanted to live together. The long houses where usually 150 feet long 20 feet wide and 20 feet high. Inside the long houses raised platforms created a second story, which was for sleeping space. Mats and wood separated and divided the rooms. Each long house housed as many as 60 people! Long houses are good for long time. What would you do if you lived in one of these?

The Chinook realign was very important to them. They believed that their gods were, the beavers, eagles, raven and whale and bear. They also believed in a god of creation Nakeanie. First Salmon Rite, a ritual in which each group welcomed the annual salmon run. Another important religious rite was the individual spirit quest, an ordeal undertaken by all male and some female adolescents to acquire guardian spirits that would give them hunting, curing, or other powers, bring them good luck, or teach them songs and dances. Singing ceremonies were public demonstrations of these gifts. The Chinook also had potlatches, which were ceremonial distributions of property.

When Chinook went to war they would dress up. Before though they would have a big festival for the warriors and the new warriors. The wise man would bless them and the new warriors would endure some hard challenges. That must have been hard.

The Chinook tribe didn’t eat very much. Their main food was salmon. They would prepare it different was like raw, cooked, smoked, salted and dried and rationed to the families. Salmon was the most important source of food to the Chinook. They also had rock fish, halibut, cad fish, smelt and sturgeon.

Chinook didn’t travel much. When they did it would be for what season it is. After that they would find the best place to stay till the next season. The only other time they would travel was for food hunts and war. The places they stayed would be isolated and safe. I wouldn’t ever like to live that way.

The Chinook economy wasn’t like any other one. It was different but they made it work. The way it went was chief’s family, middle class then slaves. The more passions you had the higher in the class you were. I think it would have been hard to live as a slave.

Some of the Chinook customs and games they had sound kind of fun. The chief was always the wealthiest. For fun the men and boys they would play lacrosse in a different way. For the little girls they would play with their home made dolls. Mothers carried babies in a basket all the time. To me the lacrosse sounded fun to me.

All of this that I have learned was really inserting to me. Like the lacrosse was a test of being a man. The moving every season. Even the wealth system. Thank you for reading and I hope you learned something.

A hole lot of fun

Today was the longest but shotest day today by that i mean i woke up at 8:30 and i ate breakfast. After that we sat aroud and finaly my step dad was like so today chillins we are going to dig a hole in the yard and find a pipe and i was like why cant we go to canada and everybody laughed. Then we wne t out side and stared to dig a hole and to find this stupid pipe ands we dut three feet and decited to move it to the right a little bit and fiund the pipe. After that we needed to find the end of the pipe so we dedcited to dig another one two feet in front of the one and dig another three feet. After that we went and found the pipe and stated a trech. What made me mad about that was it was 93 degrees and we are shuvaling and sweating, because we are rotating we get to rest but my step dad wasd like dakota come fill the other hole and that took me forever because i had to have the dirt 6 inches over the orinal. Then we went inside for lunch i was so tired my mom said we could wait a little and i was like we should rent a dichwich to help us out so then my mom was like we need to wait till tomarrow to have the dichwich so we where done with digging. After we where done i asked of i could take a nap at one thirty and i didnt wake up till five thirty......lazy right. I thought if i where needed they would wake me up we where also where thinking about going to the beach so you know i figerd i would be woken up any way we had dinner at little mexicon toco stand and we came home and ate it and then i came to blog so today was the longest but shortest day.

A new life

SO this week i started my new life here in Tonasket WA. It is a lot differnt from living on the cost by that i mean it doesnt rain barely and it alaways sunny and you can see the land and it goes on and on. Today we woke up and my mom cooked the best frenchtoast ever it feels so nice to be waking up to that smell. Next we went out side and loaded up a bunch of trash that had been here becasuse of the previous owner, well we doing that a guy named Paul came by with his wife and he said he had been here a cupple weeks back and saw that there was a cupple of V.W's and wanted some pices so my step dad said he could take what he needed FOR FREE

and so he stared getting want he wanted and walked by my step dad and gave him a geniours amount of money he was a very funny guy. After that guy left we finished up with our first load of trash and my mom amd step dad went to the dump for likke an hour well they where gone us kids had lunch. When they came back we loaded another thing of trash and my step dad and my little brother jesse went to go on that last run of the day. After they were gone i took my first shower sence sat(ewww) then i came out and went to my room and fell asleep at four and didnt wake up till 5:30 so that is what i have done today wait till tomaorrow.
