Chinas population control was successful in
limiting the population but, it has now backfired and it is causing China to go
back on its One-Child Law and now encouraging citizens to have two children.
This has also backfired due to the previous way that China has attacked its
citizens when they did enforce the population control law. They did this by
forcing abortions, forcing sterilization and due to families wanting a male
child, many female children were killed, and this has caused an imbalance of
men to women ratio in China. These are just a couple of reasons why families in
China went from having large families to have small families.
I agree to a point, with population control. I
agree with making sure not to overpopulate which can cause food shortages, more
illness, more carbon emissions causing global warming to happen more rapidly.
However, people should not have the right to bear children taken away. As a
human species, we are made to want to mate to procreate. To have that
right taken away from our government is not okay. However, when the government stops
forcing population control and instead offer incentives to stop having children.
This then, in turn, make citizens want to get the benefits of being a one-child family
and reap the benefits.
I think that possibly in the future there will
not be a population control problem due to the newer generation of adults not
being able to afford children or have decided that children are not their thing.
40-70 years ago, all we were told to do is to get a good job, meet a great spouse
and have a ton of children. Now we are living in a time that everything costs more,
and we are still making the similar wages they did back then. If these circumstances
were to change then, we might end up needing population control in the next couple
of hundred years and a lot would need to change in the next 50 years to have forced
population control to happen.
